Present continuous tense adalah pola kalimat bahasa Inggris yang digunakan untuk menyatakan atau mengungkapkan kegiatan yang sekarang ini sedang berlangsung (dalam proses). Rumus present continuous tense:
- Kalimat positif present continuous tense
Subject + to be + kata kerja/verb + ing
Contoh:
The boys are talking about their favorite band at present. - Kalimat negatif present continuous tense
Subject + to be + not + kata kerja/verb + ing
Contoh:
The boys are not talking about their favorite band at present. - Kalimat interogatif present continuous tense

Fungsi Present Continuous Tense
Keterangan waktu (adverb of time) yang sering digunakan dalam contoh kalimat present continouos tense antara lain now, right now, at present, at the moment, today. Present continuous tense memiliki beberapa fungsi, yaitu:
- Digunakan untuk mengungkapkan suatu kebiasaan yang sekarang masih berlangsung.
Contoh:
Mr. Leo is teaching Japanese this semester. - Digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu perbuatan yang sedang terjadi pada saat sekarang, tetapi tidak berarti sedang terjadi pada saat kita berbicara.
Contoh:
What are they doing right now?
They are reading a book right now. - Digunakan untuk memberitahukan dan menanyakan apa yang sedang berlangsung/terjadi/dilakukan oleh seseorang pada saat kita berbicara sekarang ini.
